The Future and Emerging Technologies Open (FET-Open) funding scheme is a part of the European Innovation Council Pilot under Horizon 2020 to support top-class innovators, entrepreneurs, small companies and scientists with bright ideas and the ambition to scale up internationally.
FET-Open Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) explore new foundations for radically new future technologies by challenging current paradigms and venturing into unknown areas. Inspired by cutting-edge science, unconventional interdisciplinary collaborations and new research and innovation practices, the projects involve a wide range of both academic and industrial partners.
The successful proposals under the FET-Open programme include among others the mobile edge computing (MEC) platform engineered on cloud technology, the testing of a drug that inhibits the metabolism of cell lines from several types of tumor, the commercialisation of a new actuator for physical human-robot interaction, the exploitation of an innovative tool to convert inexpensive near-infrared (NIR) light into coherent UVA for industrial and biomedical use.
The number of applications has been continuously rising and only excellent projects have a chance to get funding. 375 proposals have been submitted under the first FET-Open RIA call of the European Innovation Council Pilot, that closed on the 16th May, for an available budget of 123.7 million EUR. The upcoming cut-off dates are the following:
- 24th January 2019 with an indicative budget of 160,40 million EUR
- 18th September 2019 with an indicative budget of 160,40 million EUR
- 13th May 2020 with an indicative budget of 203,00 million EUR
