Case Study – eCommerce offer personalisation

What started out in 2017 as an idea to revitalise the discount space has become an AI deals personalisation platform, used by some of the world’s biggest retailers to control and convert customers on the lookout for deals.

Revlifter’s goal is to be the world’s best eCommerce offer personalisation platform. Recognising that retailers are not fully extracting the maximum value from their deals and their customer data, the company’s three core products – RevPage, RevConvert and RevRewards – have been developed to leverage 1:1 customer personalisation and deliver value and competitive advantage to retailers.

THE IMPORTANCE OF R&D

“We have a very ambitious multi-year R&D strategy” says Simon Bird (CEO). “The eCommerce user journey is very complex, there are a lot of different channels, and retailers’ goals vary by sector. Our technology can and needs to be adapted to any retailer goal, whether it be real-time margin on a phone contract, or the offer that warrants for example. Ensuring we identify and use the right machine learning tools to deliver this real-time personalisation is therefore critical. In this respect, the UK R&D Tax Credit scheme is very important in that it allows us to invest in our UK tech team.”

THE MSC R&D SOLUTION

Initially Revlifter used their accountant to handle their R&D tax credit claims. However, as the size of their claims became more significant, they realised they needed a more thorough and technically driven approach, and sensibly switched to MSC R&D on the recommendation of their part-time FD from the FD Centre (Raymond Yager).

Employing our fast-track Blitz process, two of our experts – Chris Berry (a technology expert) and John Doherty (FCA) spent a day with the Revlifter team ensuring all eligible R&D projects were properly identified and accessing relevant financial data.

Following the Blitz day, the MSC team prepared a comprehensive report which ensured that Revlifter’s claim to HMRC was optimised and fully compliant with HMRC rules, ensuring its successful processing was a formality.

As a result, MSC R&D continue to be Revlifter’s R&D tax credit claims advisor.
